Casting the Moonlight
At night the stars come out to play,
and darkness covers the light of day.
A bright moon hangs high in the sky
as a white tiger passes by.
Under the cover of darkness she dances
and plays and takes chances,
but one by one the moon illuminates the darkness.
The tiger thought the moon heartless!
For taking away her playtime so dear,
she lassoed the moon and drew it near.
"I want to play," said she to the moon,
and hid it cunningly 'til noon.
When the sun was supposed to rise,
the people woke to a surprise:
the sun was not at its peak!
And the tiger began to feel meek.
The sun, to the moon, is like a brother,
so one cannot rise without the other.
No light spread throughout the land,
and everything began to die at hand.
The tiger realized she'd done something terrible.
Her consequences, she foresaw, were unbearable.
She quickly released the moon from its cage,
and it emerged with a sublime rage.
"For your wrong doing, you must take my place."
And the tiger had a solemn look upon her face,
for now it is she who must cast the moonlight.
She replies with a nod, "I will make things right."
